This is a Kaka, seen in this case at Zealandia in Wellington, an incredible ecosanctuary where native birds and animals are protected from predators. The birds are free to come and go and Kaka can be seen around Wellington incline of the house where I was staying. Amazing intelligent parrots!

Harrier Hawk

A different theme today, one of my colleagues at work works with Raptor Rescue and today Eva the Australasian Harrier Hawk was brought in, unfortunately Eva is blind in one eye and can’t live in the wild, instead she helps with advocacy for protecting these amazing birds. I took a few quick shots with my 50mm lens which is all I had with me!

Up Close Kea

I was out skiing today with my kids, good fun if a little damp. The Kea (New Zealand mountain parrots) were out and about in force eating cars and trying to steal anything they could find. I was taking pictures of this one while another tried to eat my shoe!
