Today I took my first trip in a long time into central Christchurch. The central city is now open although work is ongoing demolishing earthquake damaged buildings. I hardly recognised the centre, so much so that having followed a diversion it took me ages to get my bearings and get to where I wanted to be. So many of the landmarks have gone. While there is plenty of empty space there are signs of progress.
I took a variety of images trying to capture my impressions as I went round the town. I think the grey day actually suited much of what I saw.
The Botanical Gardens are still lovely even if these blossoms are a little early I think.
Part 2 tomorrow!
