My name is Richard Laing, I live on the South Island of New Zealand and I am trying to make better photographs. I am a member of the Kaiapoi Photographic Club, a small but friendly club affiliated to the Photographic Society of New Zealand.
I started taking photographs at the age of 7 with a Kodak Brownie Reflex camera with Black & White 127 film. It was lots of fun and I have been taking photographs ever since, using 110 Instamatics, a Polaroid Instant 10 (photographs no very faded) and starting to use a 35mm SLR at University when I bought a second hand Olympus OM10.
I have been shooting Nikon since I bought my first new SLR, a Nikon F50 and now have a motley collection of lenses I used with that camera until it finally expired and now use with a Nikon D50, so far the counter tells me I have taken over 8000 photographs with it, so well on my way to the first 10000.
I still use a film camera (Nikon F80) occasionally to remind myself how much I still have to learn about getting the photograph correct in the camera without lots of cropping and messing about in editing software. Having the LCD on the back of the D50 makes the process seem so much easier.
You can seem more of my images on Posterous, Flickr and SmugMug.
